IIC has completed the installation of the Seismic Network of the Enciso Dam

22-Feb-2024
EPTISA, through its specialised company Ingeniería de Instrumentación y Control, has completed the installation of the seismic network of the Enciso Dam.

The contract 066/19-OB signed with the EBRO HYDROGRAPHIC CONFEDERATION (Directorate General for Water, Secretary of State for the Environment, Ministry for Ecological Transition), had an execution period of 27 months.

The aim of the project was to implement a system to control the possible effect of induced seismicity produced by the Enciso reservoir on the river Cidacos.

The scope of the project was as follows:

  • Installation of four (4) Seismic Stations located in municipalities in La Rioja and Soria, in which concrete huts have been built to house the required equipment: high-precision triaxial seismometers and accelerometers, digitisers and GPS receivers. They are equipped with an autonomous power supply system using solar panels.
  • Installation of a 3G/4G communications system.
  • Adaptation and incorporation of the data generated by this network into the Earthquake Monitoring System of the National Geographic Institute (IGN), including the installation of a seismic data storage server.

The contract has included a maintenance service to guarantee the continuity of the system’s operation and the arrival of seismic data in real time to the reception centres, and a seismological analysis service based on the data generated by the network, with the collaboration of the University of Alicante.

This project completes the set of control and safety systems that EPTISA’s Dam Monitoring and Surveillance Area has installed and implemented at the Enciso dam over the last few years, including the Automated Monitoring System with more than 600 sensors and the implementation of the dam’s Emergency Plan with five warning points with electronic sirens.
