The 12th PRC-USA Bridge Engineering Workshop was Held in Pittsburgh

  The 12th PRC-USA Bridge Engineering Workshop, sponsored by the expert committee of PRC Transport Ministry and US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), was held from June 6 to 7 in Pittsburgh, US.

  More than 20 experts from China and US met together and had extensive, in-depth exchanges on the topics of “Prevention Methods of Multiple-risk”, “Safety Evaluation” and “Rapid Construction” etc. The participants include Li Yanwu, director of the Highway Bureau of PRC Transport Ministry, Zhao Junli, deputy chief engineer of CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd, Phillip Yen, chief engineer of FHWA Bridge Structural Dynamics Office, Myint Lwin, director of FHWA Bridge Technology Office, and Harry Capers, vice president of Arora and Associates.

  Dr. Zhu Xiaowen, chief engineer of JSTI Bridge Structure Research Institute, attended this workshop at invitation. Dr. Zhu gave a technical report on "Health Monitoring of Ordinary Bridges"and exchanged views with both Chinese and US bridge experts on such topics as bridge NDT technology, health monitoring technology, Maintenance & reinforcement technology and long-term performance study.

  After meeting, the delegation visited Wilson Bridge in Washington, US and attended the 32th International Bridge Conference held in Pittsburg. (Reported by Yu Lu)
